Wordmark: Generally a type-treatment
used when the name of your company identifies what you
do (Home Depot) or is very well-known (Sears.)
Lettermark: In most cases, an abbreviation used instead
of the full name of your company (HP, VW, FedEx.)
Brandmark: An emblem or symbol used to represent your
company, often without the name (Nike/Swoosh, Apple/Apple, McDonalds/Golden
Arches).
Iconic: A combination of a brandmark symbol with a custom
type-treatment of your company name.
Did You Know?
The RCA logo featuring the dog “Nipper” sitting
in front of a phonograph was introduced in 1910. Prudential
Insurance Company’s Rock of Gibraltar logo started
even earlier—1896.
